Purchase Agreement & Health Guarantee

Please read this document completely before submitting a deposit and committing to a puppy. By putting a deposit on a puppy, the buyer is agreeing to the terms and conditions within this contract.

Thank you for considering a puppy from Bernice’s Batch. We recognize the numerous benefits of dog ownership. We also understand that buying a puppy is a significant investment of time and money. This contract is for the protection of both the seller and the buyer. However, it is primarily written to protect the health and general well-being of the puppy.

Purchase Agreement

Seller requires a $500 deposit (of the $1,800 total purchase price) to hold the puppy of buyer’s choice. The non-refundable deposit will be made through Venmo, check, or cash.

Health Guarantee

Seller will determine when the puppy is ready to go to its new home — at least eight weeks of age.

The puppy is guaranteed to be in good health at the time of sale. The puppy will be up to date on veterinarian-recommended vaccinations and worming at the time of pickup. Dew claws have been removed. Vaccinations and wormings must be continued; your vet will provide more information. Please do not expose your puppy to other dogs that are not vaccinated until he or she has completed the entire vaccination schedule — around 16–20 weeks of age.

Buyer, at own expense, should have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 48 hours of receiving the puppy. If within 48 hours a licensed veterinarian finds the puppy to be unhealthy or unfit for sale, the puppy may be returned for a full refund — provided the puppy has not been injured or neglected, and the veterinarian provides a written statement deeming the puppy “unhealthy for purchase” along with explanation. Health issues caused by neglect or injury from the buyer negate the health guarantee.

This guarantee does not include minor illnesses and health issues such as colds, allergies, internal or external parasites, or umbilical hernias. However, the seller will disclose any known illnesses or health issues prior to the sale.

The seller assumes no responsibility for any medical expenses incurred after the sale.

Genetic Health Warranty

A warranty against serious, life-altering genetic disease is provided until the dog is one year of age. Should a qualifying genetic disease be discovered during this time that will greatly shorten the dog’s life or greatly alter its quality of life, the seller will provide the buyer with a 50% refund of the purchase price (vet expenses are not covered, and a replacement puppy is not offered). Proof of examination and diagnosis must be provided to the seller and confirmed by the seller’s vet. The seller may require return of the dog.

Autoimmune deficiencies are not covered at this time, as there are no genetic markers for testing and there may be environmental factors.

This warranty is valid only if the puppy has been vet-examined within 48 hours of pickup.

Hip Dysplasia

This warranty includes hip dysplasia for one year. The warranty is void if the dog is allowed to become overweight or its joints are over-stressed at any point during the first year. If the dog is found to have hip dysplasia within its first year, the buyer must provide the seller with documentation from PennHIP or OFA. Veterinary medical records will be required showing the dog’s weight and the veterinarian’s assessment of that weight.
